Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana Wellness

Wellness

Exercise
At present there are two forms of exercise available to clients of Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana and one for community members, including caregivers

Personalized Exercise Program
Through a collaboration with Turnstone Center, clients of Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana are able (with physician approval) to access an exercise physiologist at Turnstone Center, who will create a personalized exercise program. Along with this free assessment is use of the Turnstone gym for one month. Additional use of the gym is the responsibility of the client. This service is available only to clients.

Tai Chi
Tai Chi is a relaxing form of exercise available to people with a wide range of abilities. Participants may do the movements standing or sitting. 6-week sessions for clients, caregivers and friends have not been scheduled yet. Please call if you are interested: Gail Hamm 484-9560 or (866) 484-9560. A small fee will be charged.

Massage
Massage can be a very relaxing experience. It is a great way to provide nurturing self-care. A certified massage therapist with specialized training in working with people with cancer is available.

There are two different types of massage available at Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana.

Free, 15 minute chair massages are available to clients and caregivers the second Monday of every month, from 10am-noon. Available on a first-come, first- served basis. Located in the library of Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana.

Clients may request a massage gift certificate for themselves from their personal advocates. Clients are eligible for one (1) free half hour massage. Cancer Services will pay half of three (3) additional massages. All massages are provided by a certified massage therapist. Additional massage time is the responsibility of the client.

Wellness and Music
We provide the drums and rattles. You bring a willingness to play. No music knowledge or experience is necessary. Join us every 2nd & 4th Monday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Healing Arts Center at CSNI. Experience relaxation, socialize with others, increase your coping skills, and participate in physical exercise while having fun being involved in musical activities. Facilitator Chad Reichert is a Music Therapy Intern with IPFW. He is planning multiple activities for participants, besides drumming, such as playing body percussion, relaxing through listening to music, and creating new songs as a group

CD’s, Tapes
Our resource library holds a variety of CD’s and tapes, which will relax you.

Relaxation Experience
Periodic relaxation sessions are available to clients, caregivers and the community. Guided imagery, soothing music and de-stressing tips are available. Watch the calendar for specific times and dates.
